Our Facilities
Swift Rapids Generating Station
Located on the Severn River at Lock 43 of the Trent-Severn Waterway, north of Orillia, Swift Rapids GS was commissioned in 1917 and is the oldest and largest of Orillia Power Generation’s stations. It has three horizontal single regulated Kaplan turbines, and at full plant water flows of 63 cubic meters per second with a drop of 14.5m, has the capability of producing 8.0 MW of electricity .
Minden Generating Station
Located on the Gull River in the Town of Minden Hills, Minden GS was commissioned in 1935 with two vertical Francis turbines. At full plant water flows of 24 cubic meters per second with a drop of 25m, it has the capability of producing 4.4 MW of electricity.
Matthias Generating Station
Located on the south branch of Muskoka River, east of the Town of Bracebridge, Matthias GS was commissioned in 1950 with one vertical double regulated Kaplan turbine. At full plant water flows of 27 cubic meters per second with a drop of 14m, it has the capability of producing 3.0 MW of electricity.
Elora Generating Station
Located on the Grand River in the village of Elora, Township of Centre-Wellington. Elora GS was commissioned in 2017 with one crossflow waterwheel turbine, and at full plant water flows of 11 cubic meters per second with a drop of 12m, it has the capability of producing 1.0 MW of electricity.
Fenelon Falls Generating Station
Located at Lock 34 of the Trent-Severn Waterway, in the village of Fenelon Falls, City of Kawartha Lakes. Fenelon Falls GS was commissioned in 1997 with two horizontal double regulated Kaplan turbines, and at full plant water flows of 48 cubic meters per second with a drop of 7m, it has the capability of producing 2.6 MW of electricity .
Marmora Generating Station
Located on the Crowe River, in the Township of Marmora & Lakes, Marmora GS was commissioned in 1992 with two horizontal double regulated Kaplan turbines, and at full plant water flows of 32 cubic meters per second with a drop of 4m, it has the capability of producing 1.0 MW of electricity.
Solar
Orillia Power Generation owns and operates 7 roof top solar systems. There are 4 sites in the City of Orillia and 3 in the Town of Cobourg, which in total have the capability of producing 2.5 MW of electricity.
Progress Headquarters
Orillia Power Generation’s headquarters are located at 61 Progress Drive in Orillia. OPGC moved into this location in 2017, and it is home to our offices, operations centre, warehouse and garage.
